New parking charges across 22 car parks just weeks away (2025)

Parking fees across nearly two dozen South Gloucestershire car parks are set to be implemented in the coming weeks. Last year, it was disclosed that 22 council-owned car parks across the local authority area would introduce parking charges by spring 2025.

South Gloucestershire Council confirmed that they are still on schedule for a 'spring' launch date. The official date will be announced shortly, with charges becoming effective a few weeks later.

The charges will be applicable from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, while parking will remain free on Sundays and Bank Holidays, excluding Park and Ride and train station car parks. The council has stated that at least 10 per cent of spaces in short-stay car parks where charges will be introduced will continue to offer 30-minute stays for free, reports Bristol Live.

Motorists will then be charged 70p for the first hour in short-stay car parks. In short-stay car parks, drivers will be charged £1.30 for up to two hours, £3 for up to three hours, and stays up to four hours will now cost £5.

Since there is no long-stay car park in Hanham, stays between two and four hours at Laburnum Road car park will cost £3. Parking in long-stay car parks and spaces will cost £3 for the first four hours and £4 for four-to-six hours. Stays exceeding six hours will be charged at £5.

Weekly season tickets will be priced at £20, while a monthly ticket will set you back £75 and an annual ticket will come in at £840.

A six-monthly ticket option will also be available for £435.

Blue Badge holders will have the privilege of parking in any space for free for up to four hours. Beyond that, they will be charged £1 for up to six hours and anything over six hours will incur a cost of £2.

A weekly parking ticket for them will be £8.

At Parkway North Park and Ride and Abbey Wood train station, parking will be charged at £2.60 per calendar day from Monday to Sunday (24 hours), including bank holidays. These car parks will continue to be free for valid Blue Badge holders.

The scheme will operate on a cashless basis, but the authority has assured that contactless pay machines and other easy payment methods will be available to ensure that drivers, with or without a smartphone, can use the system easily.
